What is a CPA? CPA stands for Certified Public Accountant. CPAs provide the advice and information businesses and people need to make important financial decisions. To become a CPA, you must sit for the CPA Exam which requires a great deal of preparation and you must pass all four sections of the exam.
What is the difference between a CPA and an Accountant? An accountant is a general term for a professional who helps keep financial records and/or makes sure taxes are paid properly. Accountants may or may not be certified as a public accountant (have a CPA). A CPA is a professional designation that is regulated by the state.
